Question: How is this workshop useful for me?

Answer: This course is aimed to build a strong fundamental base in the techniques and methods of Industrial Biotechnology. The course design will address the gaps in your knowledge related to the field of Biotechnology. It will also equip you with the fundamental knowledge required to take an informed decision about your career in Biosciences. The decision to opt for a specialised field requires an understanding of the ins and outs of the daily research activities and also requires a high level of practical fundamental skills used for research in that area (e.g. Molecular Biology). So to choose a specialisation based career you will have to equip yourself with the tools of the trade first.

Question : Will I get an opportunity to visit any industry?

Answer: The Summer School does give you an opportunity for an industrial visit during the programme( specified on the course website http://workshops.scientity.com )

Question : How is this course more beneficial than the workshops being held in my country?

Answer: This summer School can be an excellent platform for honing your practical skills on cutting edge research techniques, networking with fellow students from around the world, interaction with the international research community, to gain a better understanding of the UK higher education system and to gain experience in the use of advanced robotic equipment. Also living in a foreign land for an educational program can turn out to be a life changing experience for most of the people. Everything from social interactions with other international students , living an independent lifestyle, learning in a different educational system to experiencing an innovative research outlook, can greatly broaden the horizons of your mind.

Question: Do I need to give IELTS for this Summer School and what is the level of English required?

Answer: You do not have to give IELTS for this Workshop. But you should be able to communicate your thoughts in English language both verbally and in writing. Also to help you in case of any problems, you will get the support of other doctorate level demonstrators during the practical sessions.

Accommodation Includes: Students will be provided University accommodation for the duration of the summer school. Facilities would include bedding, shared kitchen with utensils, on-site launderrette, CCTV and entry phone system. Question : How can I apply for this Summer School?
Answer: You need to fill the online application form or take a print out of the online form and send the filled form to Scientity's contact address (India).

Question: Will I get a certificate after completing the course?
Answer: You will be awarded a certificate of attendance from Newcastle University which will be a proof that you attended the Summer School in Newcastle University.

Question: Will I get preference for higher studies in Newcastle University and other Universities in UK after completing this course?
Answer: As you will spend a month in Newcastle University, working and interacting with the faculty members on a daily basis. So you will definitely get a preference over the other applicants of the MSc programs. The benefits of attending such programs are acknowledged by all the academic institutions around the globe, so your CV will definitely be enhanced by this experience and your application to other Universities will reflect the same.

Question : What would be the daily timings of the training?
Answer: Everyday sessions will last from 9 in the morning till 5 in the evening, with more then 75% being practical training.

Question : What does the social program include?
Answer: The social program has been included as a part of the summer school to enhance your experience by exposing you to the cultural and social richness of the region, it also includes trips to Edinburgh, York and the Lake District.

Question : What is the last date for the submission of the application form?
Answer: The number of international applicants for this course is estimated to be high this year and we can only invite a limited number of students. So, we would definitely recommend an early application to increase the chances of your selection. However, we will not accept any applications after 11th June 2010.

Question : Is there any financial assistance/scholarship available for this course?

Answer: As the Biotechnology International Summer School is a short term training course, there are no official scholarships available from the University. However, there could be some scholarships available with your University or the local governmental bodies for sending students for summer schools.
